Having been attracted by paintings and the life of impressionist artists between the age of 13 and 14, Lucemar
de Souza bought a few bottles of gouache, starting then to express herself by means of the brush.
While studying architecture in Rio de Janeiro, she was encouraged by one of her professors,
Renato Meneschal, to paint watercolors.
During this period, a specific incident had profound significance on her future life.
At a lecture given by professor Clarival do Prado Valladares he noticed that
during a projection of slides, she was taking notes in the form of succinct
and expressive sketches. “The girl who draws in the dark”
was eventually presented to the artist Ivan Serpa. This encounter resulted in Lucemar de Souza, later on,
to become a regular visitor of Ivan Serpa’s house and his lectures,
resulting in his orientation, professional discipline and passion for art to influence
her work in a permanent fashion.
She participated in several exhibitions in her native Brazil, including the “Salão de Belas Artes”. More recently, her work was present in the United States, at the Latin American Art Gallery in Miami. Over the next few months her art can be seen in Miami at Serious Studios, in New York at Agora Gallery, and also in Vienna / Austria.
