David Montgomery’s new exhibition, Shutterbug @ Scream
Many people will be familiar with a number of the photographs that will be shown in David Montgomery’s new exhibition, “Shutterbug”, which will run from 14 to 29 July at Scream, 34 Bruton Street, W1. The images have graced the covers of some of the most seminal album covers and magazines of the past 40 years but, extraordinarily, this is the first time that any of them have been shown in an exhibition of David’s work.
David Montgomery is a celebrated award-winning international photographer. Heralded by Q Magazine, (in their recent special edition on Psychedelia), as having produced some of the most iconic images of the Sixties, David Montgomery is internationally renowned as one of the most legendary photographers of all time. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he attended photography courses run by Alexi Brodevitch in New York and worked for the award-winning photographer Lester Bookbinder for four years, following Bookbinder to England in 1959. David fell in love with the soft, romantic English light and took up residence in London, where he continues to live with his family.
David has taken the portraits of statesmen, royals, actors, singers, artists, scientists and sport personalities including: HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Harry, Lord Mountbatten, Baroness Margaret Thatcher, Sir Edward Heath, Jack Straw, Bill Clinton, Cardinal Basil Hume, Clint Eastwood, Sir Sean Connery, Terence Stamp, Alfred Hitchcock, Jean Shrimpton, Bing Crosby, Diana Ross, Jimi Hendrix, Sir Paul McCartney, Chrissie Hynde, The Clash, U2, The Who, Andy Warhol, Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Francis Bacon, Howard Hodgkin, Gilbert & George, Conrad Shawcross, Grayson Perry, Professor Stephen Hawking and Muhammad Ali, to name a few.
David has contributed regularly to Vogue, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph, Rolling Stone, and House & Garden. David was also commissioned by the Post Office to photograph a special-edition stamp for the millennium. His Andy Warhol photographs were recently exhibited in the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and have since been added permanently to The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, USA.
