ARMOR FOR SLEEP ANNOUNCE HEADLINING U.S. TOUR THIS FEB/MAR
VIDEO FOR "THE TRUTH ABOUT HEAVEN" ON MTV, MTV2, FUSE
SELECTED FOR MTV'S 10 SPOT DROP
Teaneck, NJ - Garden State quartet
Armor For Sleep announce their first headlining national tour in support of new album,
What To Do When You Are Dead.
Armor For Sleep have been on the road constantly here and abroad since the release.
In fact, the band returned from England as a headlining act this month.
What To Do When You Are Dead, which has sold over 119k copies to date,
is the culmination of two months in the studio with noted producer
Machine and combines the band's stunning ability for writing catchy,
hook-laden rock with evocative, introspective vocal melodies.
Released earlier this year the album has gained widespread acclaim in national and international
press with recent features in
Thrasher,
Rock Sound (U.K.) and
Alternative Press (5 out of 5 Stars review, "Meet Your New Favorite Band").
Singer/guitarist Ben Jorgensen was also quoted in a recent issue of
SPIN Magazine. Even online giant AOL.com has taken notice of the band covering them consistently
since the release.
Not content to sit back and bask in their accomplishments,
Armor For Sleep wrapped up shooting their second video ("
The Truth About Heaven") amidst their hectic touring schedule.
Directed by Alan Ferguson (Fall Out Boy, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes) the video further develops
the concept of the after-life, which is interwoven throughout the new album.
To say "The Truth About Heaven" received a warm reception at networks would be an understatement
with current airings on MTV, MTV2, MTVU and FUSE. Armor For Sleep was just selected for
MTV's newest programming franchise, The 10 Spot Drop with over 10 million
viewers per week during their 10pm to midnight timeslot.
The 10 Spot Drop, airing in January, will feature the band in select
MTV promos in between programming. The band is also featured on
Artists to Watch in 2006 and Advanced Warning, programs that showcase up and coming acts broadcasted on both MTV and MTV2. January as well will feature Armor for Sleep in Discover and Download on MTV/MTV2. Discover and Download will be a feature on the band, a song performed live and the rest of the set featured on MTV2.com for download. MTVU is also in the mix with Armor for Sleep whom are featured on The Hot Seat (past participants include The Foo Fighters, Thrice, My Chemical Romance and The Postal Service) and Backstage Pass where college students pose questions to the artists for an online and offline feature. Artists who have also participated with Backstage Pass include Green Day, Spoon and Death Cab for Cutie. Finally on MTVU, "The Truth About Heaven" video is currently #1 on MTVU.com, the indicator for MTV and upward movement at the network, three weeks in a row.
FUSE has also been a huge supporter of Armor for Sleep with a recent guest appearance on
Steven's Untitled Rock Show but regular rotation for "The Truth About Heaven" on the show
for the past month as well. The video started out its run on Oven Fresh beating
out major artists Green Day, System of a Down, Spoon, Straylight Run, The Dandy Warhols,
and Morningwood by a landslide margin of over 20%.
Armor For Sleep will continue to fan the flames they've created on What To Do When You Are Dead with more touring and appearances throughout 2006. Keeping true to form the band has already begun writing new material which fans will get a taste of on the upcoming national tour.
Headlining w/Boys Night Out, Chiodos and Action Reaction

What to Do When You Are Dead
Among emo fans, it's all about which band can best touch the heart, engage the head, and rock the body in equal measure. Armor for Sleep has been one of the most successful on allthree counts, regularly performing to gaggles of sweaty kids who sing along with every word. Of course, with lines like"Give me your hand; I'll shake it...and smile until my facefalls off my head", this is no mean feat. Though, on the surface, the group's radio-friendly take on the "smart-punk" genre may appear to have something in common with pop-punk jesters Blink 182, Armor for Sleep's lyrics repeatedly explorethemes of loneliness, death, and existential angst.
Sonically, the ensemble is a bit more straightforward than some of its contemporaries, sticking with tried-and-true driving bass lines ("Stay on the Ground") and Iron Maiden-like harmonised lead-guitar lines ("Remember to Feel Real"). On "Walking at Night, Alone", an acoustic-guitar line even recalls the introduction to fellow New Jersey-ite Jon Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive". With WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE DEAD, Armor for Sleep finds the common ground between tuneful accessibility and intellectual rigor.
