INSTALLATION 4: It's A Beautiful World -
Arrives in Miami during Art Basel
Scion presents the fourth installment of the Scion Installation Art Tour: 'It's A Beautiful World'. Launched in 2003, Scion Installation is a revolutionary art tour featuring work from an unprecedented collective of contemporary artists. For 4 years the tour has evolved, and each year the medium with which the artists showcase their work evolves. For Installation 4, the theme "It's a Beautiful World" was interpreted by each artist in one of four mediums; painting, photography, sculpture, and collage. Scion Installation 4 will visit 9 cities around the country with a final stop in Los Angeles where all of the artwork will be auctioned off to the public, and 100% of the proceeds will go toward art related charities.

Silent Art Auction for Equality Now
Franklin 54 Gallery is pleased to announce a silent art auction during the month of April with a percentage of the sales proceeds going to Equality Now. This vital non-profit organization, with offices in New York, Nairobi and London, works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. As reflected in the Equality Now literature, “human rights violations against women have for too long been denied the attention and concern of international organizations, national governments, traditional human rights groups and the press. Meanwhile, hundreds of millions of girls and women around the globe continue to endure debilitating and often fatal human rights abuse.”
Over 30 artists associated with the gallery are generously submitting artworks that will be on view for bidding to support the auction for Equality Now. Opening bids will begin at $200 for smaller paintings and $300 for medium sized works. These are quality original paintings created by established mature artists that include abstracts, collage, mixed media and realism with works on canvas and paper including contemporary Chinese paintings by curator/artist Edward Evans, minimal resin pieces by artist/gallerist Elisa Pritzker and NYC architectural paintings by Sharon Florin. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase and collect fine art to benefit an important cause. All works will be on display for bidding throughout the month from April 4th to the 26th.
The opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 7th from 4-7 pm with a closing reception on Thursday April 26th from 6-9 pm. Jessica Neuwirth, President of Equality Now said: “The funds raised through this auction will strengthen our work to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. We are grateful to the artists and the Franklin 54 Gallery for supporting our efforts to protect and promote the human rights of women.” Jessica will be present to speak at the closing reception on April 26th.
The gallery would like to thank Equality Now for this opportunity and privilege to work with them on this project.

New Geographies : exhibition by Monica de Miranda
Rooted in cross-cultural fertilisations, New Geographies pushes the boundaries of the conventional notions of place and nation. A solo exhibition of work by Monica de Miranda, it reflects on how globalisation is profoundly transforming our apprehension of the world, provoking new senses of identity and the creation of new territories. New Geographies explores the subsequent erosion of national identities and the advent of a new cosmopolitanism, embodied by the juxtaposition of a rich mix of communities in a contemporary urban metropolis, such as London.
The various pieces exhibited offer a multi-faceted analysis of globalisation and how it affects our lives, at a micro - the local, the individual; and macro scale - sense of belonging to a community, a nation.

Modernism: Designing a New World 1914-1939
Corcoran to Host Largest Modernist Exhibition in U.S. Modernism: Designing a New World 1914–1939 to Emphasize American Works
This spring, the Corcoran Gallery of Art will host the critically acclaimed exhibition, Modernism: Designing a New World 1914-1939, from March 17 through July 29, 2007. It is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition on Modernism to be staged in the United States to date and was originally organized by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). In fact, the Corcoran will be the show’s only American venue, following its installation at the V&A and MARTa Herford in Germany.
“This show demonstrates how Modernist art, design and architecture still affect nearly every aspect of our lives. It takes a comprehensive look at Modernism, featuring everything from teacups to buildings with no gaps in between,” said the Corcoran’s new director and president Paul Greenhalgh.
This ground-breaking and vast exhibition explores ..

COPENHAGEN: On 15 March ARKEN awards the ARKEN Prize for the second time. The Prize comprises dkk 100,000. This year it is joined by two newly established Travel Grants of each dkk 50,000. The winners will be made public at the award ceremony.
Excitement is in the air until the very last minute. For the recipients of both the ARKEN Prize and the newly established ARKEN Travel Grant are not made public until the award ceremony. The only certain thing is that both the Prize and Travel Grant winners are persons working with and on the contemporary art scene.
Honouring contemporary art.
ARKEN owns one of Denmark’s most significant collections of contemporary art. Thus it is natural for the museum to award a Prize and a Travel Grant complementary to the collection.
