The bas-relief "Il Dono" reproduces the solemn confrontation between the goddess Athena and the god Poseidon that decided which of them had the right to be worshipped inthe capital of Attica.To the Athenians,Poseidon offere a horse made to emerge miracolously from the rock;Athena's gift was an olive tree. The citiziens of the capital were enchanted by the wondrous plant and from that time on they adored Athena as their patroness and preserved her precious gift on the Acropolis.
