September 11
is a day that will never be forgotten, as well as its consequences - war.
The german artist Helga Kreuzritter´s paintings with the title "2001" ("2001 - The Attack", "2001 - Victory?"; "2001 - Peace?")are her contributions as reminders of this atrocious attack, but they also ask questions: Was the "victory" really a victory? And what about what was called "peace" at the end of the war? Helga Kreuzritter did create these paintings soon after the end of the Afghanistan war. In the meantime, the course of the political developments justifies her scepticism.
These paintings are impressive examples for the language of an artist. A network of barbed wire symbolizes the powers of evil ("2001 - The Attack"); a banner at the top of a hill is a signal for victory ("2001 - Victory?"); a crucifix and veiled warriors are representations for the conflict between religions ("2001 - Peace").
These paintings, together with other paintings, sculptures and objects by Helga Kreuzritter, will be on display during an art exhibition in Vienna/Austria, at the well-known art gallery KANDINSKY, from June 6 until June 18, 2005.
